Camping Music Festival Checklist: Build a Comfortable Home Base

Festival camping is part concert, part temporary neighborhood, part puzzle: where did we put the lantern, and why is every sock damp? A comfortable camp makes the late-night sets better and the next morning much easier.
Check the two sets of rules
Most multi-day events distinguish between camping areas and the main concert venue. You may be able to bring items to a campsite that aren't allowed past stage security. Read both lists. Bonnaroo's packing guide includes shade, water storage, lighting, and backup toilet paper; its rules separately explain site-specific restrictions.
Your campsite essentials
Approved tent, stakes, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag
Shade and rain shelter as allowed
Water storage and food-cooling plan
Lantern or headlamp with spare batteries
Comfortable shoes, dry socks, and weather layers
Earplugs and sleep mask
Phone power and a photo of your campsite location
Toilet paper, sanitizer, wipes, and trash bags
A plan for recycling and proper waste disposal
Make hygiene a five-minute walk, not a mystery
Locate restrooms, sinks, refill stations, and medical services on day one. Keep a headlamp in the same pocket every night. Use provided toilets, respect campsite neighbors, and never leave wipes or sanitary materials on the ground.
A urine-only pouch such as Peece can be an optional emergency backup at a campsite only where the organizer permits it and there is a genuinely private, appropriate space. It is not a replacement for provided toilets or a solid-waste disposal system. Seal it, pack it out, and use an authorized waste bin.
A simple campsite layout trick
Give each category a home: sleeping zone, food and water zone, charging station, and a closed trash container. Keep walkways clear so nobody trips over a tent line in the dark.
FAQ: What matters most at a camping festival?
Safe shelter, hydration, sleep, and knowing where facilities are. The decorative extras can come later.
The best camp is the one you can find, navigate, and clean up—even after midnight.
